The volume contains the chantry certificate of the royal commissioners appointed in 1548 to survey and value ‘colleges, free chapels, chantries, fraternities, gilds, brotherhoods and other lands whatsoever’. The certificate covers the cities of London and Westminster, along with its corporations and companies, and the county of Middlesex. Its importance as historical source material has long been recognised.
