Publications » Vol. 2: London Inhabitants Within The Walls, 1695
This volume provides an index to the names recorded in the assessments upon births, marriages, burials, bachelors and childless widowers made under the Act of 1695. Eighty of the ninety-seven parishes within the walls are represented in the assessments which constitute, in fact if not in name, the first census of London inhabitants and so this index is of particular value to historians and genealogists. In his introduction, Professor Glass also discusses the value of these assessments for demographic purposes.
