Edited by TIMOTHY V HITCHCOCK
The Quaker Workhouse at Clerkenwell, one of the most radical experiments in co-operativism made in the eighteenth century, was established as a direct result of the writings and efforts of John Bellers, the economist and social reformer. Richard Hutton, its most successful steward, used this personal notebook to record events in both his life and the life of the institution, to complain and speculate, record compliments and note insults.
