This volume describes all the royal, papal or episcopal charters which were granted to Westminster Abbey by, or were issued by the abbot, prior or monks, between the accession of William I and the deposition of Abbot Ralph Arundel in January 1214. The editor has drawn on documents to be found among the Westminster Abbey Muniments, in the British Library and in the National Archives. Many of the documents refer to properties in London and Westminster and the majority of donors and witnesses also came from those areas. All the people and places named in the documents are listed in the full index.
