Publications » Vol. 4: Scriveners’ Company Common Paper, 1357-1628, with a Continuation to 1678
Edited by FRANCIS W STEER
In about 1400 the London Writers of Court letter procured a book in which to record ordinances and memoranda and to serve as a register of members. The names of masters and apprentices are recorded from the middle of the fifteenth century and between 1580 and 1628 the names of fathers of scriveners are also recorded together with their place of residence and occupation. Included in this volume is an edition of the Bodleian manuscript Rawlinson D51 which provides information on the government and admissions to the Scriveners Company in the years 1628 to 1678. There is a full index of persons, places and subjects contained in the two published manuscripts.
